From Macbeth and Othello to Twelfth Night and As You Like It, William Shakespeare’s influence on the world of stage and screen can still be felt today. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the death of the world’s greatest playwright: where better to celebrate the Bard’s lasting legacy than at Café Royal, in the heart of London’s buzzing Theatreland.
A ‘go-to’ for thespians and stage lovers alike, Café Royal has curated a Shakespearean experience featuring the Grade II listed Tudor Suite: an original fireplace is the grand centrepiece of this suite living room that celebrates the Elizabethan era. The space is finished by mock Tudor panels and Jacobean symbols, a beautiful marble dining table and green velvet sofa and wooden paneling throughout.
In addition to an overnight stay in the Tudor Suite and a decadent three-course dinner at Café Royal’s Ten Room, guests will receive tickets to Henry V at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, only a short drive from the hotel. With the rousing words ‘Follow your spirit: and upon this charge, Cry — God for Harry! England and Saint George!’ echoing through the park, the anniversary production is a must-see this summer. Directed by Donmar Warehouse Associate Director Robert Hastie and starring Olivier Award-winning actress Michelle Terry, in the role of Henry V, Café Royal guests will have premium seats for the star-studded production.
After an evening of high drama and excitement, guests can slowly make their way back to the hotel for a post-theatre cocktail in Green Bar. Finding inspiration in many of London’s local taverns and widely reported to drink rather heavily, Shakespeare often alluded to his love of drinking in his work ‘I would give all my fame for a pot of ale’ (Henry V). In honour of this, Café Royal has created a special Shakespeare cocktail that pays homage to the man himself.
For those wanting to stay a second night, Café Royal offers a cosy movie night in the Tudor Suite’s very own TV room. With a choice of modern Shakespeare classics adaptations, guests will be treated to home-made popcorn and snacks in the comfort of their own suite.

The package also includes traditional English breakfast, three-course meal at Ten Room, one Shakespearean Cocktail each at Green Bar and two Band A tickets for Henry V at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
