Harbour City’s Sakura & Sake Festival!

The season of cherry blossoms, also known as “Sakura”, arrives at different countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China in March and April every year. From Mar 17 to Mar 31, 2016, Harbour City will bring this beautiful blooming season to Hong Kong through a real Sakura display. Customers can also visit the “Masu Transformation” & “Sake x Manga” art exhibitions at the same time. Moreover, Harbour City has invited famous Japanese instrumental trio “Yui” to host their first free public performance in Hong Kong. Together with a pop-up tavern, thematic menus and other activities, shoppers can appreciate Sakura and Japanese culture at Harbour City.

1) Sakura & “Masu Transformation” Art Exhibition
“Masu” is the traditional wooden-made vessel for tasting sake in Japan. This year, Harbour City has specially designed a number of giant “Masu” to be the pots for Sakura trees displayed in the Mall. Moreover, Harbour City will also organize “Masu Transformation” art exhibition showcasing 20 art pieces transformed by “Masu”. Some of the “Masu” have been transformed into a clock, keyboard and even Japanese restaurant.

2) Pop-up Tavern – Sake & Food Tasting
Harbour City will also introduce the Japanese culture of “Sake” to customers during the Sakura festival by opening a pop-up tavern. The tavern offers close to 100 types of Sake, in which a number of them are launched in Hong Kong for the first time. The tavern will also offer a variety of fruit wines and Hojicha. Moreover, customers can try different kinds of food provided by restaurants in Harbour City, including grilled food from “Nishimura Restaurant” and Mini Wagyu Beef Burger from “The Joomak”.

Participation Method:
1. During the promotion period, every electronic spending of HK$100 at any restaurants of Harbour City, customers can redeem one “Sake Tasting Token” (Maximum of 5 tokens can be redeemed per receipt, while stock lasts).
2. With onsite donation of HK$120 to“The Fund for the Future of Children affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake”, customers can redeem a “Sake Tasting Card” to enjoy 10 types of sake.

3) “Sake x Manga” Exhibition
Ishikawa is a county in Japan with a long history of producing Sake with a relatively strong taste. To combine the ancient and modern Japanese culture, 22 breweries in Ishikawa have invited 22 Japanese Manga artists to taste their sake respectively and draw a comic to represent the unique taste. The comics have also been printed on the Sake bottles for exhibition in Japan in 2015. The “Sake x Manga” Exhibition in Hong Kong is its first overseas exhibition.

4) Limited Wagyu Beef Menu and “Wagyu Beef x Sake” Pairing Menu
A number of restaurants will launch limited Wagyu Beef Menu for the Sakura Festival of Harbour City. Participating restaurants include [email protected], Be On Canton, Cafe Marco, ChefMaster Chiuchow Restaurant, Cucina, ÉPURE, Gyu-kaku & Japanese Yakiniku Restaurant, Le Café de Joël Robuchon, niji bistro & Noritake, Nishimura Restaurant, On-Yasai, The Joomak and Three On Canton, in which some menus would also feature Sake pairing for the perfect dining experience.
5) Famous Japanese instrumental trio “Yui” hosts public performance in Hong Kong
Harbour City has invited a famous Japanese instrumental trio “Yui” to host their first free public performance in Hong Kong. “Yui” was formed by three graduates from the Japanese music department at the Tokyo University of the Arts – Hanawa Chie (tsugaru-jamisen player), Kakinokihara Ko (koto player), and Tsujimoto Yoshimi (shakuhachi player). The group debuted to positive reviews in October 2009 at a live performance during Uji light festival in Kyoto. In 2010, one of their original songs was used as theme music of the TBS Akasaka Sacas shopping mall. The second album Tada Kimi ni (Only for You) was released in November 2011. The trio is currently devoting most of their time performing music abroad.
